13 days after Meimei was born. Hospital.

Nurse: Ever had anesthesia before?
Syl: Yes, a couple of times.
N: Any adverse reactions to it?
S: No, not really.
N: Gall bladder surgery is very safe, but there's always a risk when anesthesia is used. Do you want us to use extraordinary measures to be resuscitated if something happens?
S: Uh, yeah, I'm gonna need to live through this.

My first taste

This evening, I experienced my first taste of backlash against my Pure Romance business, and it's freaking me out much more than I expected.

I knew that I wouldn't get unconditional support for everyone. My MIL, although she would never say something to me directly, is less than pleased about my new business. (Death is not an option, mom, don't offer.) And I knew she would be not be thrilled, but I didn't think she'd be upset.

And I think what really upsets me is that I am fragile enough right now as it is. I am scared that this whole thing is going to tank and we'll be on the hook for a lot of money. And I hate to have someone rooting for that, or have anything less than complete confidence in me.

But, I guess not everyone is comfortable with what I have chosen to do. It's too bad she probably won't come to a show to experience the educational aspect of it, or see what happens in the ordering room where we actually answer serious questions women don't even talk to their best friends about. She would maybe see why I chose to do it.

Dear butthead:

It's been a long day, so please excuse my polite honking. At least it's not the prolonged, angry honking, which still sounds pretty wussy coming from my xB.

But, you see, it took almost 10 minutes to get out of the parking ramp, and I couldn't get into the far lane as I prefer. That means I have to wait for the light because all of the buses are turning the corner onto another full block so they can never go.

And clearly there is a convention. I get that. There are people all over the place, the traffic cops are out in the intersections. Must be a big one.

But the reason I am honking, sir, is that you just pulled up to the curb, smack between two signs that say "No Stopping" to let someone out of that behemoth of a car. Someone who isn't even getting out. I know you're letting someone out for the convention, because we're in front of the doors and all, but the reason it says "No Stopping" here, in front of the doors, is that you're blocking my lane. I can't get around you without cutting off traffic in the other lane. And that lane is full.

So, you'll understand if my honking is polite but persistent. I know you're new down here, so if you pulled over for a couple of seconds to let someone out, I would understand. But she isn't getting out. You have now stopped traffic for at least 2 full minutes while we wait for someone to get of your car, right between the "No Stopping" signs.

I don't like to honk, sir, but that is why I am honking at you.

My own company. Gah!

I am so horrified, I'm not even sure what's worse. That he totally sold out or that the song has been so butchered.

Just livin' the dream...

plus or minus a mental illness and a prescription or two.

Ok, so we're suffering through one of Kitten's worse bouts of constipation and it's killing me. Although I was constipated for most of my life (pre-gall bladder-ectomy), I can't take my kid struggling like that.

What do I do? Call the doctor? Put her on an IBS diet? Stop her from drinking milk? Are bananas good or bad? Peanut butter? Soluble fiber vs. insoluble?

It seems like everyone has a different opinion and no one wants to apply it to a 2-year-old.

I could live with it if it was me, but don't do this to my kid.
