Hardware

You are looking at my tibia in x-ray - the front of my leg is on the right and the back is on the left. The plates are shoring up the tibia bone, which bears the weight of the body in the lower part of the leg (the fibula doesn't bear much weight). Dr. Pittman did not want to have to put a plate in the back, since that's where all of the blood vessels and nerves are and they don't like to play around back there. But note the plate in the back. He didn't want my knee to just keep falling out of the joint.

Yeah, that's what he said.

Just. Keep. Falling. Out.

Holy Crap! That's some seriously structural-looking hardware! Dang, that Oh Dr. Pittman doesn't mess around, does he?!

"Just. Keep. Falling. Out."? *shudder*

Sometimes, it might actually be more comforting to not have your doctor speak such plain English.

And, my father is now denying that he asked if you were going to have one leg shorter than the other. And, so I have begun denying that I ever said I wouldn't actually put him in a cheap home.

I just love how you can see the threads on the screws...

Ow!!!

It looks like a beautiful sculpture, just not what you would want in your leg. Glad it is there though, falling out of anything... bra, car, knee... is bad.

Dude.
(and also? ouchie!)

I am telling you: BI-ON-IC
Call the WNBA because you are going to have an 8' jump shot. Thank goodness for Oh Dr. Pittman.

After reviewing the play, I believe this is actually a frontal view of my tibia with the large plate on the right (running down the left side of the bone) and the smaller plate on the back of the tibia shown to the left. You can see the smaller fibula bone behind and to the right in the x-ray.

Ow. That's some serious hardware! I think I'll pass.... Bet that'll be fun to get through the airport security.

I'm hoping to get a card or something from the doc for metal detectors. Maybe I can just carry around the x-rays.
