Settle the debate

Ok, so there's this crappy country song where the girl demands to be let out of the car on prom night and then she is hit by a car because it's a dark night, black dress, and the car couldn't see her.

So, Pants thinks you never let a girl out of the car. You offer to drive her somewhere, call someone, take her home, whatever.

And I think that whenever a girl asks to be let out of the car, you let her out. She is either very serious and you should respect her wishes and let her out, or she's playing a game and you should not take it and she should be let out of the car.

When she demands to be let out, do you let her out?

The kids I know would've already been on their cell phones texting the entire confrontation to at least two or three other friends, so if none of them haven't already offered to come pick her up, an "I'll let you out, but I'm not leaving your vicinity until someone shows up to give you a ride" would be a reasonable compromise.

If, in the unlikely event no one has a phone, you get out of the car. Because you have the sense to stay out of the roadway and watch for headlights.

Oh, I like Kashka's answer.

I was going to say go ahead and offer to drive her somewhere, call, whatever, but if it's still "let me out of the car!," let her out. She's a girl, not a prisoner.

Also, so it matters that she's a girl?! What if your guy buddy was pissed at you and wanted out of the car on dark road wearing dark clothes? Would you be as concerned then? (This being the hypothetical "you," you know.)

Yes to the above. I like the intermediate answers. But if the option is either/or, no middle ground, I would say let the girl out of the car.

Let her or him out of the car. Coming from the DC area, this action causes danger for both genders - it's one thing we are completely unbiased about - we will run you down, no matter what sex.

I say let her/him out too. They should be smart enough to stay out of the road when they're old enough to date. Might not be a bad idea to call said person's home to alert the family though, only considerate and they could drive to pick them up if they were too far from home.

Let out...the situation is a country song she has good reason (what's the last happy country song you heard...it's the music of pain).
