- We have a clothes rack in the office that holds the bulk of our clothes.
- Only one section of the closet trio has a bar. One has a low shelf. The last has nothing except a basket with blankets in it.
- With the closets intact, we each have 18-24 inches of clearance on our respective sides of the bed. If the closet doors are open, Pants has much less. The bed also has a very square footboard - you can imagine the bruises.
- A full remodel to make the office into our closet and master bathroom is years away.
- The carpet does not go under the little closet divider walls, I'm sure. Might be bare cement under there, for the glorious decisions we have unearthed so far.
- Do you think we need a permit to tear down, or just to put back together?

Closet dilemma
So, my new poll is in regards to the useless closets in our bedroom. Here's the background you might need for an accurate vote:

I am having a hard time visualizing. Even though I think I have been in that room... Can you post a pic?
Hm. If you decide to wait, could you maybe put in shelves or an additional closet pole or some other semi-temporary solution to make them more usable until you are ready to do the remodel?
If you do decide to tear them down, you could always do some area rugs to cover the naked ground until you're ready for the remodel...
But I agree with AKJ - can we get pix or a sketch of the floor plan?
Do you have dressers in there or is it just the bed with no room? I've never seen it so I'm having a bit of trouble visualizing too. We could give more educated advise if we knew what we were talking about.
We haven't done permits for work we've done, but we weren't changing major structural elements either. If you're just opening up a little door space it may not be a big deal, but have you seen the blueprints?
What they don't know won't hurt 'em.
I have never pulled a permit for demo, only for building - and then only if it is obvious because there is a dumpster in the street or the work is outside.
If I'm remembering correctly just take em down... but make sure you aren't taking out supports for the house, those should be in the wall. If it is bare cement you can always cover with a rug or something and patching bits of damage isn't real hard work. Let me know if you have questions or want a hand.
